DESCRIPTION: APW - Elgin, 17J, 18S, heavy 14K gold original HC with massive high relief applied Scottish Rite crowned two-headed eagle emblem to rear with central inset mine cut diamond and a banner at bottom reading "Deus Meumque Jus" (Latin for "God and My Moral Rightness") in black enamel, front with beautifully detailed image of the Scottish Rite Temple of Wichita, Kansas, gold cuvette engraved "Presented to Col. J. Giles Smith by brethren Wichita Consistory No. 2, May 26, 1898.," white enamel SS dial, SW-LS, gilt mvt, s#4887904. Gross weight of assembled watch 102.0 dwt (158.7 g). One of the most spectacular custom made Masonic watches we have encountered, J. Giles Smith was a founder of the Wichita Consistory.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, fine-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, some scattered spotting of gilt surface; dial with some light hls; fine hands, minute with oxide, finish loss and some bends; case shows little wear, cuvette with numerous short scratches at perimeter from slips during past openings, some spots of abrasion at left perimeter of front, ding or small shallow dent to upper left shoulder of front, ding to band at 12, cuvette with two small dings, excellent engraving detail; tight bow, crown shows light wear; good glass crystal.
